Half Moon

A quiet night before the wedding, 

a group entered we were not expecting 

a deep and meaningful conversation, 

but he saw champagne in our location, 

we were then introduced to the family, 

a couple of comments almost randomly 

Phil, Joanne, Heather, and Piers

 we raise a glass to their health, then cheers 

led to stories while their guests arrived, 

around the pub walls, laughter echoed, 

four weddings in Asia, a story regaled, 

then the birth of their beautiful children shared, 

time for dinner, we went our separate ways 

thought that was all there was for today 

but no, later, as the tables cleared, 

the family departed, and we steered 

ourselves to the bar, for a brief nightcap 

to rekindle the conversation, a brief recap, 

a beautiful thing, a proud dad and daughter, 

she to start big school in September, 

technically speaking we talked carbon capture, 

a greener planet, a common feature 

to the vision we wanted for our children’s future, 

the world set to rights, we ascended the stairs 

farewell in parting to this marvellous pair.
